Not Ready for Christmas

It's hard to believe that Christmas is but a few weeks away. We've had fairly mild weather all through the fall months so it really doesn't feel like the holidays yet. I see people's homes decorated for Christmas already even though December begins tomorrow. I just don't feel the mood yet to get into the holiday spirit. OK, I admit, I did finally break down and load Christmas playlists on to my iPod tonight, but I probably won't listen to them just yet. I'll probably wait a few weeks just yet. I just feel like people want to begin Christmas earlier and earlier each year. We start getting requests for Christmas books and music at the library as early as July now. I'm just not into it that early in the year, let alone now that Thanksgiving is behind us. It just seems like yesterday that the trees outside still had their leaves on them, and now, in the span of a very short time, the trees are all bare, Christmas decorations are up and even when I went to the bank today, they had Christmas music playing. Maybe in a few more weeks, I'll feel more in the spirit of the season, but for now, I am just so not into it. I'll decorate the house once I feel that way. For now, I'll be happy just to get it clean enough to feel like it warrants being decorated. I've already begun doing some de-cluttering of the living room. I'll vacuum and dust once I get that finished. Then it will be on to the kitchen. I'm going to need help with the scary refrigerator, but I can, on my own, mop the floor, do the dishes and scrub the counters. Maybe this weekend I can get started. We'll see.
