"Citizens United" MUST be overturned

The recent attempted recall election in Wisconsin should serve as an object lesson as to why the disastrous Citizens United ruling by the Supreme Court must be overturned by a Constitutional amendment. The lion's share of the money that went into Governor Scott Walker's coffers came from out of state and from SuperPACs whose donors are not required to reveal who they are. What this means is that Wisconsin's election was influenced by people who do not even live in Wisconsin and who would not even be affected by what happened there. I do not want affairs in Ohio decided by people who may live in other states, or for that matters, other countries. This undermines the very essence of our democracy and is a prime example of an activist Supreme Court bent on maintaining one party rule. It allows anonymous fat cat donors to buy elections and nullify the votes of everyday people who do not have enough money to influence elections. As it stands right now, there is too much money in our electoral system that has corrupted things so badly that it almost seems pointless to go to one's polling place to cast a vote. If the GOP is so hell bent on maintaining one party rule, they are basically heading us for a totalitarian system where one party maintains permanent rule by keeping themselves in power by any means necessary. Already in this Presidential election cycle, the GOP candidate is ahead in the polls 52 to 48 percent by Obama, because the GOP is awash in so much undisclosed cash that they will be able to purchase this election with money from sources that none of us will know anything about. Are foreign countries trying to influence this election by donating huge wads of cash to the GOP SuperPACs? How can we be sure that some totalitarian regime isn't trying to undermine our democracy? The corruption in our electoral system is shocking and I am beginning to be afraid that we are seeing the end days of the United States as we know it. Empires have a history of falling because of overreach and corruption and we are probably seeing the writing on the wall. Elections will be bought and sold to the highest bidder and going to the polls will be pointless because none of us have the power to overturn the influence of Big Money. I don't know what it will take to save this country short of another revolution, but that may just be what it's going to take to overthrow the new aristocrats who want to return us to the system we overthrew back in 1776. For all their talk of patriotism and returning us to the ideals of the Founding Fathers, it's obvious that they know nothing of our country's history. It just goes to show what happens when people who no longer read and are ignorant of history gain power. They become deaf and blind to what millions of men and women fought and died for to maintain over the past two plus centuries, thereby dishonoring their memory and sacrifice. It's time to put a stop to this insidious Supreme Court ruling that has already allowed one election to be bought by outside interests who do not even live in the state where the election took place. A Constitutional amendment is the only answer. It's time to get to work now on making that happen.
