Ah-HA! I have found the solution to the never ending ringing telephone! Turn the damn thing off! I had no idea that I could turn off the ringer, so I have taken to doing so in the evenings so I can finally have some peace and quiet. I also found out that I can block certain numbers and it seems that the lion's share of phone calls I am getting are SPAM calls from some criminal enterprise that is phishing for credit card numbers in order to rip people off. How they got my phone number, I do not know, but I am blocking them from being able to call me. Too clever by half, they have dozens of numbers from which they can call you, so every time one crops up on my caller-ID, I block it. You'd think that after endless months and months and months of calling me and my not answering that they would get the picture that it's useless to even try continuing to call my number. But they persist anyway and I am going to do whatever it takes to foil them. Sooner or later, they must give up trying. I won't answer and they can't keep bothering me if I continue to refuse their calls, under such pseudonyms as "MRSI", "USF", "PACTEL" and other fake businesses that appear on my caller-ID. I know better. I won't answer. Period. So they may as well give up trying. So if you get calls from them, run, don't walk, away from your phone and whatever you do, DO NOT ANSWER! It's scam artists trying to get your credit card info to rip you off. They even call my cell phone but I figured out a way around that, too. I took all their numbers and put them in a folder called "SCAM" and no ring tone happens when they call, so I never have to know when their calls come in and I can conveniently ignore them. Yes, consumer, you CAN control your phone, you just have to be desperate enough like me to learn the tricks on how to declare open warfare on phone scammers and regain control over your telephone.
BEWARE OF INTERNET TROLLS!
One thing I find unfortunate about the Internet is the epidemic of trolls that it seems to breed. These are angry, lonely little people who feel the need to vent their spleen to anyone who would listen. They are generally people who are bored and angry and lack self esteem, so they lash out at anyone they can from the safety of sitting behind a computer screen and using anonymous screen names so that nobody will know who they are. They think that they are clever know-it-alls when in point of fact they are largely ignorant people who seem mostly incapable of making a logical argument. It is my opinion that they are largely to blame for the lack of civil discourse in our society because suddenly everyone can become a pundit, no matter how uneducated they are. While I applaud citizen journalism, there are no real standards on the Internet. Anyone can say anything and it's out there for people to peruse and digest and take for gospel truth. "Honest, I read it on the Internet!" is something I hear all the time, as if something that is in print, whether via virtual world or in a newspaper, must therefore be taken literally as being written by someone in the know. My question is, do you believe everything you read? I don't. There's a lot of drivel out there being written and sold as "literature" or "punditry" or what have you and somewhere, there's some sucker with a dollar just waiting to buy it or someone sitting there in front of a computer screen soaking up what someone has written as being the absolute, unexpurgated truth. Well, I've got news for you: this is a blog on which I am writing right now. It is nothing more than my personal opinions written down for anyone to read, and feel free to disagree with me, that is your right, after all. And yes, I am venting my personal spleen here on things that bother me a great deal, like phone scammers and Internet trolls. And trust me, there's a special place in hell reserved for these kinds of people. Just sayin'..........
