Fighting to save my home

Well, it may be futile, but I could not live with myself if I did not fight to save my home. I plan to circulate petitions now that I have an idea what Dunkin' Donuts plans to do and I guarantee that residents of my neighborhood will not like it. So I am going to take a stand and fight until the next Planning Commission meeting, when I may stand my best chance of fighting back against this thing. I know, I am up against a major corporate power vs. little old me, but still, I am not going to go down without a fight. This is my home being threatened and when you threaten my home, I am left with no choice but to fight and fight hard. Our city has a tendency, particularly lately with its major makeover, to ignore citizen pleas regarding companies wanting to do business in certain areas because they see it as jobs and a tax base, which I understand, but they really must stop running roughshod over residents and start considering the quality of life in our neighborhoods and how certain businesses moving in will affect that. I have seen, of late, how large groups of citizens opposing various things around our town were more or less blown off by the City, because they are so eager to continue with their extreme makeover to where citizen action is considered merely for show and isn't taken at all under consideration, which saddens me. I am not going to go down without a fight but I have to adopt the right strategy and in that respect, I am probably going to need help from someone far savvier than me, someone who knows the ropes and who to talk to. After six months of fighting to save a historic house from demolition, I have a better idea of how things work, and I am noticing how both the media and city officials all seem to know my name now. So they know that I am nothing if not vocal about a lot of things and I am not afraid to get up and speak my piece about it. I will take a stand, I will fight, I will not give up or go down, not without a good fight. I may not win, but I could not live with myself if I just rolled over and gave in, so I am stating today that I am in opposition to the proposed drive through at the new Dunkin' Donuts store in Kent, Ohio. I am not opposed to the store, just the expanded plan that requires taking my house. If they stay within their original footprint, I have no problem, but unfortunately, they have already received some zoning variances and the chances of the Planning Commission saying "no" is very slim. But I am sure going to try to muster the neighbors in the surrounding streets to drum up support for my cause. It's the least I can do. I have to try.
