The finishing touches on my kitchen

At my old apartment where I lived for close to 30 years, I had such a small kitchen that it was more of a "kitchenette" than a real kitchen. But it did have quite a lot of storage space in the cabinets, so that was to its advantage. The kitchen here in the new place, while it lacks the storage space of my old apartment kitchen, is a larger room overall and has space for a table and come chairs, which I received as a Christmas present from my older sister and younger brother. They are in the photo to the left. I had as yet unpacked crates in that corner until my brother brought over the furniture to put in that corner. I have the unpacked crates upstairs on the third floor and none of their contents are things that I am going to use a great deal, so it is OK for that stuff to be upstairs. The things that I will use are in the kitchen already. Now that I have a dining room table and some chairs, I also bought the lamp to put on the table so that I would not always have to depend on the overhead light, which still lacks a fixture. I did not have windows in my old kitchen since it was in the center of the apartment. Having no kitchen curtains to transfer from the old place, I was growing weary of the bare windows and had long imagined lace curtains being what I wanted in the kitchen. However, I found it nearly impossible to find lace curtains in the proportions that I needed, that being 54 inches long by 40 inches wide. I found plenty of larger and wider curtains made obviously for the huge windows being built into McMansions these days, but few, if any, options for those of us who live in older homes with smaller windows. It wasn't always this hard to find the correctly sized curtains that I needed. Just a few years ago, my bathroom was remodeled in my old apartment and I successfully found 54L by 40W curtains for that window that came with me to be installed in the bathroom here. Now, just try finding 54L x 40W curtains. Impossible. I searched in vain for 54L x 40W lace curtains until a friend found me some at a company called Country Curtains, so I immediately ordered two pairs to put in my kitchen windows. They arrived today and I put them in and I am so pleased that between the new furniture and the new curtains, my kitchen feels downright homey, cozy and comfortable. I've longed for a nice kitchen for years, and now I have close to what I always wanted. The kitchen still needs some work done on it - paint and some cosmetic repairs, but beyond that, it's quite close to being what I really want in the way of a kitchen. I'm so glad that I was finally able to find the curtains that I wanted in that room, so that issue is solved. One less thing to worry about. What a relief!
