Ready for Christmas

I finally got around to digging my Christmas stuff out and decorating the house. It was hard to find because so much of my stuff is still packed from my recent move and I did not know where I put things, but enough digging and I was able to locate everything. I did not bother to do any decorating last year because I was too depressed about having to move from my longtime home, but now that I am settled into new quarters, I decided that I should go ahead and decorate the house for the holiday. It feels good to have everything up and the house ready for Christmas. I played Christmas music all evening as I worked on making things festive around here. It's been snowy here so it even looks rather Christmas-y. Still, even in spite of all of this, I'm not yet feeling the holiday mood that I'd like to be feeling right about now. Not sure why, but I'm just not, at least not yet. I suppose it's the combination of new quarters and how it affects how I decorate. I still kind of miss my old house and how it felt during the holidays, but I'll have to make do with this place now. It seems to be plenty warm and cozy, particularly at night when lights are on. My downstairs neighbor and I keep this place fairly warm because it's old, poorly insulated and drafty and we do not have to pay the heat bill and we're both middle aged women who can't take chilly quarters. I just hope that I can feel a bit more in the holiday spirit now that Christmas is just a week away. Maybe I just need to watch some good old Christmas movies or something, and burn some nice incense to help me better get in the mood. Well, we'll see. In the meantime, the house is decorated and it's ready for Christmas. That's more than I can say for this time last year. It was nice to dig things out and put them up for the first time in two years. I'd rather forgotten what ornaments I had for the tree. It's nice to rediscover that and to find out what pretty things I've got from far away places like Russia, Mexico and Germany. Yes, I have a downright international tree and I love that about it!
