Singing the Christmas concert
Tonight was our choir's annual Christmas concert. We've worked all semester on a challenging program of music and managed to learn a great deal of music in that time. However, I fell ill this week with an upper respiratory infection that, when I awoke this morning, managed to rob me of my voice, after all these long months of learning so much music. Not one to be deterred, I turned on the computer to see what, if any, natural and quick remedies there might be out there that could possibly restore my voice in time to sing tonight. I found several and employed them with great success. I managed to bring back enough voice to successfully sing the concert and last all the way through it. I feel much better as a result, too. Resting my voice all day, inhaling steam over a pan of boiling water once an hour, drinking many cups of hot lemon and ginger tea sweetened with honey and drinking a glass of organic cider vinegar and organic honey in a mug of hot water seems to have done the trick. I also took some ibuprofen every six hours to bring down the inflammation in my vocal cords, and that seems to have helped as well. There was just no way that I was going to sit out the concert and spend it as a member of the audience when I had worked so hard to learn all of this music so that I could sing it well. I'm very pleased that the remedies that I employed worked so well to restore my voice. I was sick with a respiratory infection for our last concert in April and I dearly hope that I will be well for our next concert in April of 2014. I don't want this to become a pattern of taking ill the week of the concert. Too much hard work goes into these concerts for that to happen. So here's hoping that I don't take ill again for a good long time. I'm miserably prone to respiratory problems as it is (it must be hereditary or something) so I need to do what I can to safeguard my vulnerable upper respiratory system that is so prone to becoming infected at the slightest thing. Time to make a regular practice of drinking a daily cup of organic apple cider vinegar and honey. Hey, from what I hear, this combo is a near miracle solution for anything that ails you. I drank one cup today and feel so much better already, so it must work to strengthen your body's immune system to help fight any number of things. Seems to work so far, so I think it's a keeper!
