Learning to knit

Everybody knits these days. And I mean, everybody. I've found myself feeling deeply envious because I've tried for years to learn how to knit and crochet, all to no avail. It's always meant a catastrophic failure and a feeling of utter incompetence at trying to do any kind of needle arts and it has left me absolutely completely frustrated. So this church knitting club started up and I thought, OK, maybe these ladies can teach me how to knit and not feel so stupid, so I am at least kind of getting the hang of it. Today was my second time going to the knit club meeting and I already have quite a few rows knitted. They aren't terribly neat, but at least it's something to show for my efforts. I really want to learn how to make things like scarves, mittens, hats, sweaters and more. But that will take years of practice, so I guess I should just content myself for now to know how to do a basic knit stitch. There is something called a "purl" that I need to learn as well, according to the church ladies, that will allow me to create patterns and various textures, something I eagerly look forward to learning how to do. In the meantime, I am struggling row to row trying to make some kind of sense of how to do this. Like anything else that one learns, it takes a lot of practice, practice, practice.

And so it goes..............
