Post-construction apartment clean-up

After working out with Jason, my trainer, at the gym today, I ventured back to my apartment to begin cleaning up after the bathroom construction that is still in progress. My landlord neglected to put drop cloths on things and as a result, the entire apartment was filled with construction dust, which needed to be cleaned up. What particularly angered me was that I completely cleaned my living room before Christmas in order to decorate it for the holiday, only to have to do it all over again. My brother and his girlfriend showed up to assist and they got my kitchen cleaner than it's been in probably years. All that needs to be done there is to mop the floor, but I won't do that until all the bathroom construction is done, because my landlord will probably troop through there with snow covered boots and track all kinds of dirt on to the kitchen floor, so I plan on waiting until I don't have to expect anyone walking through there with snowy or dirty boots, then it will get done. There is still quite a bit of de-cluttering to be done, and the bedroom is particularly in need of that. Closets and drawers need to be weeded of old clothes that no longer fit or don't get worn. I haven't done that in many years and it's time I did it and got it overwith. I also need to clear out kitchen cupboards of stuff and do a bit of rearranging of things. I need to ditch tons of old magazines I will never have time to read, weed out mail and toss stuff I don't need and much more. I don't plan to try to do this all at once, but gradually, on weekends, when I am more likely to be rested enough to get it done. But for now, things are clean of construction dust and debris and aside from some residual stuff on the living room floor that awaits bathroom construction completion, my apartment is fully ready to be moved back into again. It's been a long two weeks at my mom's but I am ready to go home again. I will miss her cat and the cats that hang around her place, in particular, the beautiful brown tabby Herman, who purred me to sleep last night and woke me up this morning purring beside me. I so miss being purred to sleep at night and gently woken in the mornings with a purring cat, so it was most pleasant to have Herman do the honors. He's quite a lovely and loveable cat who really craves human attention and affection and deserves to have someone provide it for him, even though he does not live here and technically has his own home and owner, but you wouldn't know it given how often he finds himself at my mom's house. I suspect he'd rather live there than at his own home. Too bad his owner seems to neglect his need for attention and affection. If I could take him home upon my return, I'd do so in a minute. But I can't have pets at my apartment and Herman needs to be an indoor-outdoor cat, and there's far too much traffic where I live for it to be safe for him to be outdoors. It would just be so nice to give him a loving home, but then, that would involve buying cat food, vet bills and other stuff I could not afford, so it's probably just as well to go back home to my mom's to get my cat fix.

Sorry I'm not around to help - you know cleaning and organizing frenzies are one of my specialties!
